Hermann is the Managing Director of F5 Crypto Management and serves as the Chief Science Officer responsible for F5 Crypto’s research agendas. With his team, he continues to expand the areas of crypto investments, portfolio optimisation, and risk management to the highest scientific standards.
During his time as a professor at Humboldt University in Berlin, Hermann evolved into a leading expert in crypto assets and DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) and blockchain technology. His scientific work has been internationally published at numerous renowned conferences and journals in both finance and computer science.
The focal point of his research revolves around the creation of value in virtual assets. In addition to integrating this new asset class into financial and risk optimisation, his dual background allows him to research at the intersection of computer science and finance, focusing on investments, microstructure, and liquidity of blockchain markets, DLT protocol design, and price volatility.
Hermann collaborates with the Austrian Blockchain Center (ABC Research) and the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at the University College London (UCL). Prior to his current role, his academic career included positions at the Risk Management Institute of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society. Before his appointment, he completed his PhD in Finance at the Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) after studying at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the Vienna University of Technology.
